FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

How to rent a luxury car in Miami?

Renting a car in Miami with Octane is simple and fully online. Browse our fleet, choose your dates, and send a request – our team confirms availability, prepares the paperwork, and delivers the car to your location free of charge. You can also reach us on WhatsApp or Telegram for instant help, 24/7.

What are the additional fees involved in car rental in Miami?

On top of the rental rate, the following may apply: 7% sales tax (6% Florida + 1% Miami-Dade County); the Florida rental car surcharge of $2/day for the first 30 days; tolls (SunPass or toll-by-plate) plus a toll admin fee; traffic or parking fines incurred during your rental; refueling if the car is returned with less fuel; extra-mileage charges if your plan has a mileage cap; and charges for any damage. We list all mandatory charges upfront – no hidden fees.

What is the minimum age to rent a car in Miami?

In Florida the general minimum age to rent is 21, and drivers aged 21-24 are usually treated as young drivers who may pay a young-driver surcharge. For our luxury and sports fleet the minimum age is 25, with a valid driving license held for at least 1 year.

What are the benefits of a monthly car rental?

A monthly rental gives you a much lower daily rate than short-term hire, one fixed monthly payment, free delivery and car swaps, and priority service. It is ideal for long stays, business trips, or while your own car is unavailable.

Do I have to pay a commission for booking a car?

No. We do not charge any booking commission or reservation fee. You pay only the rental rate plus the applicable taxes and fees listed in your agreement.

Why pay a security deposit?

The security deposit covers potential tolls, fines, fuel, or damage during your rental. It is a temporary hold on your credit card, not a charge, and is released back to you after the car is returned and inspected.

Can I have the car delivered to my hotel?

Yes. We offer free delivery anywhere in Miami and across South Florida – your hotel, home, or Miami International (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) airports. Just tell us the address and time when you book.

Can I let someone else drive my rental car?

Only drivers listed on the rental agreement may drive the car. Any additional driver must be added in advance and meet the same age, license, and document requirements. Letting an unregistered person drive voids the insurance.

Can I rent a car without a credit card?

A valid credit card in the main renter’s name is required for the security deposit. Debit cards and cash are generally not accepted for the deposit. Contact us if you have a specific situation.

What documents are needed to rent a car in Miami?

US residents: a valid US driver’s license and a credit card in your name. International visitors: your passport, your national driving license, and a credit card. If your license is not in English, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended as a translation.

What driving license should I have?

You need a full, valid driving license (not a learner or provisional permit) that you have held for the minimum period stated in our terms. US state licenses and most foreign licenses are accepted.

Which foreign driving licenses are valid in Miami?

Florida recognizes valid driving licenses issued by other countries for visitors, so you can drive on your home-country license during your stay. If it is not in English, carry an International Driving Permit alongside it. No US license is required for short visits.

Why do rental companies block the deposit?

The hold guarantees coverage for anything billed after the rental – tolls, fines, fuel, or damage. It is standard practice: the amount is frozen, not spent, and released once everything is settled.

How do tolls work in Miami?

Miami’s expressways and express lanes are tolled electronically via SunPass or toll-by-plate – there are no cash booths. Our cars are enrolled in a toll program, so any tolls you incur are billed to your rental with a small admin fee. Alternatively, you can add the car’s license plate to your own SunPass account for the rental dates.

What features do rental cars in Miami usually have?

Our fleet is late-model and fully equipped: automatic transmission, climate control, Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, parking sensors and cameras, and Bluetooth. Luxury and sports models add premium sound, leather interiors, and advanced driver-assistance systems.

What is comprehensive insurance?

Comprehensive coverage protects against a wide range of damage to the vehicle. All our cars come with standard insurance, and you can reduce your liability further with our Octane Shield option. Insurance is void if the car is driven by an unregistered driver or used against the rental terms.

What is a mileage limit?

Some rates include a daily mileage allowance; miles driven beyond it are charged per mile at the rate shown in your agreement. Unlimited-mileage options are available on request – just ask before booking.

What about charges for fuel?

Return the car with the same fuel level as at pickup. If it is returned with less, we charge for the missing fuel plus a refueling fee. There is no charge if you refuel to the original level.

Who pays for parking?

The renter is responsible for all parking costs and any parking tickets or violations during the rental period. Unpaid tickets may be charged to your card together with an admin fee.

What are the guidelines for driving in Miami?

Drive on the right. Speed limits are in mph – typically 30-45 mph in the city and 55-70 mph on highways. Seat belts are mandatory for all occupants and handheld phone use while driving is prohibited. Tolls are electronic (SunPass) with no cash booths. Follow posted parking signs – towing is strictly enforced in Miami Beach and Downtown.
